Miss Something? |
|
From
time to time, we get asked about an old news article or pictures
(the Halloween costume pictures are quite popular) that were
posted on the News and Announcements page. To make easy
access to those old articles, the News page file structure has
been rebuilt and an archival page has been created for 2007.
Click here, on the picture on the
right, or on the new link at the top of this page to see the
News archives. An archival page for 2008 will be built and
made available as soon as practical.

New Phishing Attack |
|
|
|
*
* * SPECIAL NOTE * * * |
|
NEVER CLICK ON A LINK IN AN E-MAIL TO GO TO |
|
SECURITY FEDERAL'S INTERNET BANKING |
|
|
|
Phishing (pronounced "fishing") is a term used to describe how an Internet user is
misdirected to a website for the purposes of identity theft or
other types of cybercrimes.
For example, a criminal may setup a website that looks
like Security Federal's website but uses it to get your
protected information. But, to get you to go to their
website, they have to trick you. They will try to send you
an official looking e-mail with a link to their illegal website.
The link in the e-mail is a dead give-away because the link is
not the real website.
A new form of
phishing, called cross-site scripting (a.k.a. XSS), causes the
end-user's web browser to use the real website by altering the
web browser's link to the real site with malicious javascript (a
programming tool) or HTML (the computer language web sites are
written in). However, the malicious official looking
e-mail is still the method for getting the end user to bite.
For those of you wanting more technical information on this
latest method of fraud, you can read a technical article by
clicking here or a
more end user friendly article by
clicking here.
The easiest way to avoid getting tricked is to always use the
link to Internet Banking that is on the Bank's menu on the left
hand side of the page or the link at the bottom of the page.
We also want our customers to know that Security Federal
Savings Bank will NEVER send any form of protected
information via electronic mail or ask for verification of
protected information via electronic mail. There is
no exception to this rule. The Bank has, in the past
and may in the future, send "information only" e-mails (which
could include promotions, change of procedure, notification of a
change of business hours, etc.), but the Bank will never send
a request to log into anything anywhere.
Please
feel free to call us at 931-473-4483, send us an e-mail (info@secfed.net),
or come by either location if you have any questions.
There is more information about fraud prevention on our
Customer Awareness page.

Personnel
Advancements |
|
At the regularly scheduled meeting last Thursday night, the
Security Federal Savings Bank Board of Directors approved the
Officer List for 2007. Among the officers, this year,
there has been a promotion.
Kelly Basham started with Security Federal as a
self-employed computer consultant back in 1995 and continued in that capacity until he was
hired full time as the Information Technologies Officer in March
of 2001. Now Kelly is the
Information Technologies Officer/Assistant Vice-President.
Congratulations to this fine young man!

Security Federal once again
had a booth at the Home Show held every year at the McMinnville
Civic Center to promote our new construction and home loan
products. The brain-child of Barbara Page, Executive
Assistant to President/CEO, our display was a partially framed mini-house
built by Phillips Construction and Services. The Phillips
were even nice enough to deliver the structure, set it up, tear
it down, and haul it off (many thanks, gentlemen).

IRS Scams |
|
The
Internal Revenue Service is warning taxpayers to beware of
several current e-mail and telephone scams that use the IRS name
as a lure. The IRS expects such scams to continue through the
end of tax return filing season and beyond. The IRS cautioned
taxpayers to be on the lookout for scams involving proposed
advance payment checks. Although the government has not yet
enacted an economic stimulus package in which the IRS would
provide advance payments, known informally as rebates to many
Americans, a scam which uses the proposed rebates as bait has
already cropped up.

The Very, Very Best |

All of us here at Security Federal Savings Bank are as proud as
can be of Sabrina McKnight! Sabrina has just been voted

people of Warren County.
Sabrina started with the Bank as a Teller in

take over as Head Teller of the Main Street branch and
became an Assistant Vice-President
just last year.
So, the next time you're strolling through the lobby at the Main
